Learning Life Skills Through Ranch Care
We are delighted to expand the experiences we offer with our herd and assorted small animals to children, ages 9 to 12, with the opening of Flag Ranch School this summer.
For two-and-a-half hours on Saturday mornings for eight consecutive weeks, allowing time between sessions to integrate and practice learnings in daily life, students will:
Collaborate in setting learning goals
Explore instincts
Develop body awareness
Solve practical problems
Sift through complex emotion
Form connections, with themselves, the animals and each other
Discover the intelligence of nature
Each session incorporates:
Ranch chores, such as mucking and cleaning water troughs
Animal care, including feeding and grooming
Safety and awarenesses skills while working with the animals
Building trust and communication with the animals
A mix of creative arts — gardening, photography, writing
A ranch project of the children’s choosing
Designing a tour for parents to share their work and learnings
Sessions start in July and run through October. Each class will have eight children, guided by two adult teachers. No riding is involved and no prior experience is necessary.
“At Flag Ranch School, students learn to care for the animals, the earth, and themselves. We cultivate curiosity, resilience, and somatic awareness—essential life skills that no classroom alone can teach.”
